Enigin TV Without the Television

AT Enigin we have a TV station - that will be a surprise to many who work at Enigin, even some of the directors.

They will start searching the office now to try and find which broom cupboard has been converted to studio space, bu they will not find anything.

It is offsite, truly offsite as it is a virtual TV Station, and internet TV Station where we can broadcast live and recorded material and set up schedules that we could then release for either subscribers or the general public to navigate to and with the content and adverts we wanted to put out there - all fairly simple as well.

This piece of news is interesting but internet TV is now hardly revolutionary - it has been around for ages, in internet years anyway - at least two or three years on any serious basis and longer if you think of uploaded amateur videos.

But now that the television companies have got behind internet TV productions it has really taken off.

You can catch-up on missed programmes, you can watch programmes live and all without a telly.

I was working on a few Enigin news stories and features the other evening and had a live European soccer final playing on my other computer broadcast from a UK TV station - great but how things have changed.

This move towards internet coverage does not seem to be the threat that internet coverage is for newspapers - if anything it seems to be an advantage.

News coverage is very well catered for now by the news channels - you can watch it on your computer or smart phone and for commercial channels it can now broadcast it’s advertising further and hence charge more.

Currently we are getting the TV companies general broadcast but how long will it be before the online live broadcast will actually benefit from Google’s smart advertising by targeting adverts towards your search habits? This will make it very powerful and no doubt hit the traditional press very hard.

Already re-runs on the internet can be come with targeted adverts and live broadcasts often require you watch an advert before you can get the live content.

Radio services, such as Spotify, already provide free music that you can choose but will be interrupted by commercials - I expect this maybe an avenue that more and more television will follow.

On the other front of course, and going back to Enigin TV, it is simple, cheap and can be effective to set up your own TV channel on the web. Sharing knowledge and points of interest with potential clients and interested parties along with your own adverts and marketing messages can be a powerful tool.

So watch this space - maybe if Enigin decides to we will start broadcasting Enigin TV in the not too distant future - even live!
